Derek Jeter Trivia Questions And Answers

Here are some more details on the answers (but only read AFTER you have taken the quiz). This will provide you with some more context on what you got incorrect.

1) Where was Jeter selected in the 1992 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees?

The Yankees selected Jeter 6th overall in the 1992 MLB Draft. Phil Nevil, Paul Shuey, B. J. Wallace, Jeffrey Hammonds, and Chad Mottola were all selected ahead of him. As a result, it is safe to say that Jeter went on to have the best career out of all of them. Johnny Damon was also selected 35th that year. He would go on to have a really good career and would eventually become a teammate of Jeter’s when they won the World Series in 2009.

Another one of their teammates in 2009 was A-Rod. Make sure to take our Alex Rodriguez quiz, which is in a similar format to this one.

2) True Or False: Jeter did NOT win the AL Rookie of the Year award in 1996.

This is false as Jeter did win the AL Rookie of the Year award in 1996. He ran away with the award too, earning all 28 first-place votes. This was only the 5th time in MLB history that somebody had unanimously won this award.

3) How many times did Derek Jeter win the World Series in his career?

Jeter won the World Series 5 times in his career (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009).

4) What year was Jeter named the captain of the New York Yankees?

George Steinbrenner named Jeter the captain of the Yankees on June 3rd, 2003. He would subsequently remain as the captain until he retired in 2014.

In 2006, Jeter finished second in the voting to Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins for the AL MVP Award. It is pretty surprising that a player like Jeter never won the award but he did come close.

6) How many times did Jeter win the Silver Slugger Award and the Gold Glove Award in his career?

Jeter is a 5-time winner of both the Silver Slugger and the Gold Glove Awards. He won the Slugger award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2012. He won the Gold Glove in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2010.
