JJ Watt Quiz: Questions & Answers

Here are some more details on the answers (but please only read AFTER you have taken the quiz). This will provide you with a bit more context if you got any of the questions wrong.

1) Which college team did JJ Watt play for before transferring to Wisconsin?

Watt actually played Tight End for Central Michigan University for a season. He subsequently transferred after one season to the University of Wisconsin. It is pretty crazy to think that one of NFL’s best defensive players started his career on offense. He switched school and also switched positions, which turned out to be the right decision for him.

2) Which star wide receiver did Watt play with at Central Michigan?

Star wide receiver Antonio Brown and JJ Watt played on the same offense together at Central Michigan University in 2007. As noted prior, Watt played Tight End. Imagine an offense with both JJ and AB?

3) Who did Watt and the Wisconsin Badgers lose to in the 2011 Rose Bowl?

The TCU Horned Frogs defeated the Wisconsin Badgers by a score of 21 – 19 in the 2011 Rose Bowl. Watt had three tackles during the game but didn’t record a sack.

Where was Watt selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft?

Watt was selected in the first round by the Houston Texans with the 11th overall pick. He was the first defensive end to be selected in the entire 2011 draft and the fifth defensive player total. This draft class featured some other big names, including Cam Newton, Von Miller, A. J. Green, Julio Jones, and Richard Sherman.

5) How long did it take Watt to win his first NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award?

Watt was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2012, which was only his second season in the NFL. Watt had 20.5 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles during the season.

6) How many stars was Watt given as a recruit coming out of high school?

Watt was rated only a two-star recruit by both Scout and Rivals. He sure ended up proving those scouts wrong as he has become one of the best defensive players in the NFL today.

7) How far did the Texans make it in the playoffs in Watt’s rookie NFL season (2011)?

The Texans defeated Cincinnati in the wild-card game. Watt had a big impact in this game, returning an interception for a touchdown. They subsequently lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional playoffs. Watt had an amazing game, piling up 12 total tackles and he also had 2.5 sacks. Unfortunately, the Ravens won the game 20 to 17.

8) What type of injury kept Watt out for the majority of the 2016 NFL season?

Watt underwent back surgery in 2016, which forced him to miss most of that season. He only played three regular games and missed the playoffs completely.

9) Which season did Watt NOT win the Defensive Player Of The Year Award?

Watt did not win the award in 2013. He did win it in 2012, 2014, and 2015 though. This shows you how dominant that Watt was as a player during this time period.

10) JJ Watt put up an incredible 20.5 sacks during the 2014 NFL season. He did not lead the league in sacks though. Who had more than him that year?

Justin Houston of the Kansas City Chiefs beat Watt by putting up 22.0 sacks that year. Watt still won the defensive player of the year award that season though.
