Larry Bird Trivia Questions And Answers

Here are some more details on the answers (only read AFTER you have taken the Larry Bird quiz). This will provide you with some additional context on some of the questions that you may have gotten incorrect.

1) Which school did Larry go to?

Bird played for the Indiana State Sycamores in college. A fun fact about Larry is that he started his career with the Indiana Hoosiers but dropped out after less than a month. Bird took the Sycamores to the NCAA Tournament final in 1979, losing to Magic Johnson and the Michigan State Spartans.

2) Where was Larry selected in the 1978 NBA draft?

Larry Bird was the 6th overall pick in the 1978 NBA draft. Mychal Thompson, Phil Ford, Rick Robey, Micheal Ray Richardson, and Purvis Short were all drafted ahead of him. Maurice Cheeks is the only other player from that draft class who is a Hall of Famer (with Bird).

3) How many NBA Championships did Larry win?

Larry Bird is a 3× NBA champion, winning rings in 1981, 1984, and 1986. This was two short of his longtime rival, Magic Johnson, who won 5 total rings in his career.

4) True Or False: Larry was the finals MVP for all three of his NBA Title wins

This is false as Bird is only a 2x NBA Finals MVP winner. He was the MVP in 1984 and 1986 but Cedric Maxwell won the award in 1981.

5) How many Olympic Gold Medals did Larry win?

Bird won one Olympic Gold Medal with Team USA, which was at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. The 1992 team was dubbed the ‘Dream Team’ and had a ton of the greatest players to ever play the game on it. Bird would have likely won more but NBA players were not allowed at the Olympics until 1992. That means he theoretically had a chance to represent Team USA in 1980, 1984, and 1988.

Speaking of the ‘Dream Team’, you can also take our ultimate Michael Jordan quiz, which is similar to this.

6) True Or False: Magic Johnson won the NBA Rookie Of The Year Award over Larry Bird

This is false as Larry Bird won the NBA Rookie of the Year award over Magic for the 1979–80 season. This will go down as one of the best rookie of the year battles of all time as both are two of the best to ever play the game.

7) How many seasons did it take Larry to win his first NBA Title?

Bird and Boston Celtics won the NBA Title in 1980-81, which was only Bird’s second NBA season. It is pretty impressive that Bird was able to come in and make such a big impact right away on the Celtics.

8) How many times did Larry Bird win the MVP award?

Larry Bird won the NBA Most Valuable Player award for three straight seasons in 1984, 1985, and 1986. That just shows you how dominant Bird was in his prime.

9) Larry scored 60 points during a game back in 1985, which was his career-high. Which team was this against?

Bird dropped 60 points against the Atlanta Hawks on March 12th, 1985. That ended up being the most points that he scored in a game in his career.

10) What was the final season that Larry Bird played in the NBA?

Larry Bird’s final NBA season was 1991–92. Bird ended up missing half that season due to injuries and ended up officially retiring at the end of the year. We can’t help but wonder what would have happened if Bird was able to play a few more years.
