Some Additional Conor McGregor Facts

Here are some extra tidbits about Conor that we couldn’t find space for on our quiz but thought were interesting.

Prior To His UFC Career

Conor was born on July 14th, 1998 in Crumlin to Tony and Margaret McGregor. His middle name is Anthony, which is for his father.

McGregor grew up with two older sisters, Erin and Aoife. Erin took part in the second season of Dancing With The Stars (Ireland version). Aoife works as a make-up artist.

In an interview, McGregor revealed that he was bullied as a youngster and kept a dumbell bar in his backpack for protection. This ultimately led to Conor training MMA in order to better protect himself.

Prior to going full-time with his MMA career, McGregor worked as a plumber. McGregor borrowed $60 from his boxing coach, Paddy Brady, to buy some plumbing equipment. In 2019, McGregor wrote Brady a cheque to settle their debt that had become a long-running joke between them.

In an interview, it was revealed that a week prior to his UFC debut, Conor collected a welfare cheque worth $235.

Contracts & Career Earnings

In 2018, Conor landed at number 4 on Forbes’ list of the highest-paid athletes of the year. This came after he had earned $99 million during the year. This was only behind Floyd Mayweather, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Conor finished ahead of mega-stars like Neymar, Lebron James, and Roger Federer, which is pretty impressive.

Forbes says that Conor was paid an estimated $85 million for his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather. This was nothing though compared to Floyd, who was rumored to have made $275 million from the fight.

Despite not fighting in 2019, Conor still finished 21st on the highest-paid athlete’s list. This was due to all of his various sponsorships and business interests. This goes to show you how big of a star that Conor had become to still rank high on the list, despite not even fighting.

Conor’s Personal Life

McGregor has been in a relationship with Dee Devlin since 2008. In an interview, Conor referred to her as his “lifesaver” for everything she has done for him. She is always seen in the octagon after any of Conor’s UFC fights, along with his parents.

Conor and Dee have a son together named Conor Jack McGregor Jr, who was born on May 5th, 2017.
